I am not a website
I
am Benjamin Seth Lipsey. A picture-taking, website-developing,
video editing, music writing, movie making, mac geek, with dimples
and a turtle. Professionally I am a Multimedia Production Artist.
I'll do anything that allows me to be creative and part of a production
that I can be proud of. Photography is the only outlet and medium
that consistently satisfies my creative needs. I may be many things
but I am always a photographer.
I
photograph people, nature, industry, possibly history.
Things I want to remember, or hope to be remembered. I'll actually
shoot anything, because you never know. I have a terrible fear
of experiencing something nobody will believe because I forgot
to bring a camera, or because my battery is dead. I am influenced
by a world of exponentially cooler technology. Almost nothing
is impossible anymore. Megabytes, wireless internet, camera phones,
digital audio, video and photography have all replaced the digital
watch as a personal item. This means everyday there are new ways
to share stories, a rhythm, or a laugh with a stranger in Sweden,
or my grandmother in Maine. There are no limits.
After graduating Hampshire College
in 2000, I lived in Boston's Jamaica Plain with four other Hampshire
alums. Those were good times. I worked at ReadyAbout Interactive
animating and producing multimedia content until I decided to
move to New York in 2002. Living in Queens and working in Manhattan,
I put my college education to work as a video editor for an online
magazine. As the company folded (to no fault of my own I hope),
and I grew exhausted with the big city, I started hearing good
things about Portland, Oregon. No sales tax, you say? So here
I am, living
in a city that continues to amuse and amaze me. I must thank Simple
Films and David Waingarten for introducing me to Portland's kick-ass
independent film scene. I am now a freelance photographer for
independent films, concerts and events. Working and living with
production companies and crews has introduced me to beautiful
and creative people. They have helped me to see that The City
of Portland is thriving with life, love, and bicycle paths.
None of this would have been possible without generous support from:
Mikki, Steve, and Rachel
Josiah and bork
Bratwurst Productions
and everyone who didn't act like I was taking their picture
I can't thank you enough.
